Let me be clear, equity is absolutely worth striving for. However, I also find it fascinating that we humans love to tell ourselves that the world (as it currently exists) is fair for all. Do we seriously believe that? I believe there is some sweet spot on a spectrum between naivete and cynical nihilism where we can take action to improve the world around us without being driven mad by cognitive dissonance. However, this is something we each must find for ourselves… preferably before the heat-death of the universe.
